Sikh Dharma Recognition by Bolivia’s National Legislature

On September 21, 2026, the United Nations International Day of Peace, Sham Kaur represented the Sikh Dharma Community at “Building a Culture of Peace,” an interfaith forum held at the Hall of Interpellations of the Plurinational Legislative Assembly of Bolivia. (Bolivia’s highest legislative body.)

In a historic first, nine faith traditions gathered within Bolivia’s national legislature, where Sham Kaur shared teachings of Guru Nanak and Guru Gobind Singh on unity, equality, the Sant-Sipahi path, and Sarbat da Bhala. The event concluded with a joint Interfaith Declaration for Peace, and the Plurinational Legislative Assembly awarded the Sikh Dharma Community its first formal Certificate of Recognition by Bolivia’s national legislature. Notably, at least three of the nine faith communities were represented by women religious leaders.
